1 Day Boat Trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Lake Victoria
1 Day Ngamba Chimpanzee Tour
Enjoy a 1 day boat cruise trip from Entebbe Lake Victoria shorelines to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and have an opportunity to chimpanzees feeding. During this short Uganda chimp tour, you will also be treated to sights of monitor lizards, birds and a cool lake breeze that all offer amazing photographic occasions. Visiting Ngamba, a chimpanzee island is arranged for both half and full day trips and the boats leave Entebbe at either 9:00 am or 12:45pm. They all return in the afternoon and evening respectively.
On arrival at the chimpanzee sanctuary, you will be directed to the visitor’s center where you will be introduced to the primate project. The sanctuary staffs will brief you about its history, the chimp residents and their predicament. On each of the two categories of the day visits, that is half and full day tour, you will get a personal briefing by the chimpanzee caregiver and view a feeding of the chimps. The advantage with full day guests on the island is that they will witness 2 feedings sessions from the visitors’ higher podium positioned along the end of the reservation fence. We always advise intending visitors to book the Ngamba trips in advance to ensure availability and circumvent regrets.
Unlike chimpanzee and gorilla trekking which have age restrictions, visiting Ngamba Island to see chimpanzees is by all ages. While visiting the island, you will experience chimpanzee viewing and feeding, make some shopping at the island gift shop and watching birds among others. You will further experience wildlife happenstances, take swimming on the equator, visit the neighboring fishing village or you may choose to sunbathe or relax on the island.
As a day visitor, you may choose to get your hands dirty by participating in the feeding process together with the sanctuary staffs. This opportunity of feeding chimps is available for while using the platform. Besides being able to feed your beloved chimp, you will also observe as the chimps enthusiastically attempt to acquire your attention to get food. However, this activity is subject to management exclusion and policies.
Furthermore, you may enjoy the sanctuary’s fresh meals arranged on-site, ranging between USD 10- USD 15. You are also reminded that packed lunches and drinks to the island are banned in a move to control littering related to personal items. This restriction is aimed enforcing Chimpanzee Trust’s Environmental Management Policy and System put in place ever since Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary was founded in 1998.
